Why Taylor Swift can perform in Singapore but not other countries in Southeast Asia.

Taylor Swift is a global star and has amassed a huge fan following all over the world. However, when her ongoing Eras Tour was announced, there were 151 shows across five continents with six of them in Singapore. But, there were none in Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia.

The reason behind the same was a deal between the Singapore government and the concert promoter. According to Thailand Prime Minister Srettha Thavisin, concert promoter Anschutz Entertainment Group (AEG) informed him of an agreement that states Swift can only perform in Singapore and not anywhere else in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) region, which comprises of 10 countries.

The pop icon is slated to perform at six sold-out shows at Singapore’s National Stadium next month. Thavisin also claimed that the Singapore government has offered $2 million to $3 million to Swift per show in exchange of exclusivity.

The Singapore government is astute,” Srettha said, adding, “If she came to Thailand, it would have been cheaper to organise it here, and I believe she would be able to attract more sponsors and tourists to Thailand. Even though we would have to subsidise at least 500m baht, it would be worth it.”
