Novak Djokovic has won the most ATP Masters 1000 titles and he is also the only player to have achieved a Career Golden Masters so he is definitely the ideal player to give feedback on the best Masters event in the world.

The 24-time Grand Slam winner has won 40 Masters 1000 trophies and he is the only player in history to lift titles at all nine ATP Masters events.

Those tournaments are: the Indian Wells Open, the Miami Open, the Monte-Carlo Masters, the Madrid Open, the Italian Open, the Canadian Open, the Cincinnati Open, the Shanghai Masters and the Paris Masters.

And Djokovic’s record at each of those tournaments are as follows: five Indian Wells titles, six Miami Open titles, two Monte Carlo Masters titles, three Madrid Open titles, six Italian Open titles, four Canadian Open titles, three Cincinnati Open titles, four Shanghai Masters titles and seven Paris Masters.

In fact, he is not just the only player to have achieved the Career Golden Masters, but he has done it twice.

So which of those Masters events is “one of the best tournaments in the world”, according to the tennis great.

Ahead of his return to Tennis Paradise – as Indian Wells is known as – Djokovic has described the California event as the best.

“The last time I played in Indian Wells was 2019, it has been five years, way too long to not be part of the Tennis Paradise tournament, one of the best tournaments in the world without a doubt,” he said.

“It’s probably the favourite Masters tournament of so many players including myself. I can’t wait to come and perform once again in front of some of the best tennis fans that we have out there on the tour.”

Djokovic won his first title in Indian Wells in 2008 when he defeated American Mardy Fish in three sets in the final. His next title came in 2011 when he beat Rafael Nadal in three sets before winning three in a row from 2014 with the first two going the distance against Roger Federer while he defeated Milos Raonic in straight sets in 2016.

“I go back to 2008, the first time I won the title in Indian Wells, it was one of the greatest titles of my career at that point. I remember I played Mardy Fish in the finals.

“I was fortunate to win the tournament another four times and played some epic matches in the finals of Indian Wells tournaments against [Roger] Federer and [Rafael] Nadal and many of the great players in that era. I’m really looking forward to coming back.”

Djokovic, of course, missed the two most recent events as he did not meet United States vaccination entry requirements while he opted to skip the 2021 edition.
