Patrick Mahomes’ career has been on a constant rise since he took over the starting job in Kansas City. It’s crazy to even think that this almost did not happen.

With the No. 10 overall pick in the 2017 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs selected Texas Tech quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

This almost did not happen as Johnny Manziel revealed that the Chiefs almost signed him back in 2017 instead of drafting Mahomes.

There is no telling where Mahomes would’ve ended up as now many teams are claiming they had him on their radar now as much of it is likely just revisionist history since Mahomes turned into an all-time great.

The No. 22 overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft played just 14 games for the Cleveland Browns before the organization cut ties with him following multiple off-field incidents.

Manziel was one of the most entertaining college football players of all time but he showed just how much he did not care about football once he got drafted. Overall, Manziel threw for just 1,675 yards, seven touchdowns, and seven interceptions in the NFL.

The 2012 Heisman Trophy winner spent time in the Canadian Football League, AAF, and the Fan Controlled Football League, but is no longer chasing the NFL dream.

In the meantime, Patrick Mahomes at age 28 is already miles ahead of Tom Brady’s historic pace of playoff success. Mahomes has a 15-3 playoff record, the best among active quarterbacks.

The Chiefs have made the AFC championship in six straight seasons and the team has won three Super Bowls.

I think it’s safe to say that the Chiefs made the best decision ever.
